You may ask: "Japanese-language schools already exist in Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru and other major cities. Why should I travel all the way to Puri to study Japanese?"
That is a reasonable and important question. There are two main reasons to choose Puri.
The first is to experience living independently before moving to Japan.
The second is to learn Japanese not only from textbooks and teachers, but also through daily communication with different Japanese people.
Many young people in India live with their families and receive support with cooking, shopping, cleaning and other aspects of daily life.
However, when you move to Japan for work or study, your family may not be there to support you. You may have to cook, clean, shop, manage your money, take care of your health, follow a schedule, solve problems and take responsibility for your own life.
That is one important reason we ask students to come to Puri. Before travelling thousands of kilometres to Japan, leave your hometown, live away from your family and test yourself while you are still in India.
Can I manage my daily life independently?
Can I adapt to a different environment?
Can I continue studying when no one is forcing me?

When Japanese becomes part of a student's daily life, the amount of practical learning can increase significantly.
For example, learning that might normally require approximately one year could possibly be completed in around eight months by a motivated student in an intensive and immersive environment.
However, this is not a guarantee. The actual period will depend on each student's present ability, effort, attendance, attitude, learning progress, required Japanese level and willingness to communicate.
Some students may progress within six or eight months, while others may need one year or longer.
The programme will therefore not be exactly the same for everyone.
We will consider each student's goals, ability, progress and circumstances individually.
The real advantage of Puri is not simply completing a course more quickly.

Since 2004, Chandra Sekhar Academy has taught Japanese language and culture free of charge to its school students from Std. VI onwards.
Japanese-language education is therefore not a new or temporary activity at our academy. It has been part of our educational work for many years.
Since 2007, we have also continued to organise the Odisha Japan Festival, creating opportunities for cultural exchange between the people of Odisha and Japan.
Through these long-standing activities, Puri has welcomed Japanese university students, educators, interns, travellers, company representatives and many other people connected with Japan.

We want to continue developing Puri as a small Japanese-oriented community where Indian students can learn Japanese, experience Japanese culture and communicate with people from Japan.

View official commendationI, Kunna Dash, have been connected with Japan for around 35 years. Puri is my birthplace. Japan has been my workplace and an important part of my life. I first studied Japanese independently in India. That decision helped me communicate with Japanese people, build relationships, work in Japan and create many of the educational, cultural and exchange activities I am involved in today.
I have always wanted to build a bridge between my birthplace and my workplace and create meaningful opportunities for young people in India. I strongly believe that learning another language can never be a loss. Language gives us an opportunity to understand another culture, another society and another way of thinking.
India has many languages, and English is essential for international communication. Young people may also choose to study Japanese, Chinese, German or another foreign language according to their interests and future goals.
We are Indians. Japanese people are Japanese. But when we look beyond national borders, we are all people living together on the same planet. Learning languages helps us communicate with the world and become people who can build relationships across borders.
India and Japan also share deep historical, cultural and spiritual connections, including those associated with Buddhism and ancient traditions. Their relationship continues to develop through education, technology, business, culture and human exchange.
That is why I believe Japanese is a valuable choice for young Indians.
If you genuinely want to study, work, travel, do business or build something connected with Japan, first research the available pathways carefully.
Then, if you are serious about preparing yourself - not only for an examination, but also for real communication and independent life - come to Puri.
